Bangladesh registered 241 more deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours till 8am Wednesday, taking the total number of death to 21,638.
The country has recorded 13,817 new infections in a day taking the total number of people infected to 1,3090,910, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday.
The country has been witnessing more than 200 deaths every day for the last eleven days. On July 7, the death toll crossed 200 for the first time. A total of 201 people died on that day.
The death rate now stands at 1.65 percent in the country, added the release.
The current positivity rate stands at 27.91 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 16.32 percent.
Among the 241 deceased, 125 were men and 116 were women. Of the victims, 222 died in different hospitals across the country, 18 died at home and one died on the way to hospital. 93 of the deceased were from the Dhaka division, 68 from Chattogram, 36 from Khulna, 12 from Rajshahi, five each from Barisal and Sylhet, 15 from Rangpur and seven were from Mymensingh division.
A total of 51,902 samples were tested across the country till 8am Wednesday while 49,514 were tested.
However, 16,112 Covid-19 patients have recovered in a day. A total of 1,141,157 people have recovered so far from the virus and the recovery rate stands at 87.12 percent.
As of Wednesday, 4,263,391 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 200,463,774 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
