22 Covid deaths, 1,292 new cases in a day

Bangladesh registered 22 more deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Thursday taking the death toll to 12,480.

The country recorded 1,292 new cases of coronavirus taking the total number of people infected to 794,985 according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday. 

The number of fatalities has increased while the number of infected people has declined compared to a day earlier. The country recorded 17 deaths and 1,497 new cases of infection on Wednesday.

The death rate now stands at 1.57 percent in the country, the release said. 

The current positivity rate stands at 8.12 percent. The total positivity rate stands at 13.50 percent. 

Among the 22 deceased, 14 are men, and eight are women. The victims died in different hospitals across the country. 

Five each of the deceased were from the Dhaka, Chattogram and Rajshahi divisions, three from Sylhet, and two each from Rangpur and Barishal divisions.

A total of 15,915 samples were tested across the country till 8am Thursday. 

A total of 1,291 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period. The total number of recoveries now stands at 735,157. The recovery rate is 92.47 percent.  

As of Thursday, 3,513,385 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 169,117,337 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
