2022 will be a new era of communication

If everything goes as per plan, the New Year 2022 will be a year of a new era of communication for the country.

Within this year, people of the country for the first time will experience riding the metro rail, crossing Padma Bridge, going through tunnel road, and traveling on the Rapid Transit- BRT bus.  

To this end, the work of several mega projects is continuing round the clock while few of them are ahead of schedule. 

These include traffic on the Padma Multipurpose Bridge, a section of the Metrorail, the Bangabandhu Tunnel under the Karnafuli River and the Rapid Transit-BRT bus from Dhaka Airport to Gazipur.  

Economists said people will have a different Bangladesh from 2023 as three major development projects of the government, including the Padma Bridge, Metrorail and Karnaphuli Tunnel will open. 

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Professor and also a communication expert earlier told Bangladesh Post, “The country will enter an iconic infrastructures era by opening three mega projects including the Padma Bridge, Metrorail and Karnaphuli Tunnel. 

Vehicles will be able to cross the Padma Bridge next June, Metrorail will also start running at full speed and the construction work of Karnaphuli tunnel will also be completed. These three big projects will add a different dimension to Bangladesh's progress,” said Ahsan H Mansoor, Executive Director of the Policy Research Institute (PRI).

Padma Bridge 

Work is in progress with the aim of starting traffic on the Padma Multipurpose Main Bridge next June, a symbol of the nation's pride, overcoming various adversities. 

Till now the project has achieved 95 percent of the work on the main bridge has been completed, with only five percent works remaining. The progress of river training work has been 86.5 percent. 


Metro rail 

Another mega project is Metrorail in the capital. The construction work of this flyover railway from Uttara to Motijheel, which is 20.10 km long, is about 16 km long. Work on four of the 16 stations has been completed. In all, 67 percent of the project work has been completed. 

On the next Victory Day, the people of Dhaka will get the opportunity to board the electric train from Uttara to Agargaon. Through this, Bangladesh will enter the era of electric trains.  


Bangabandhu Tunnel 

In the communication sector, another surprise is waiting for the people in 2022. Bangladesh is the first South Asian country to build a tunnel under a river. Construction of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel under the Karnafuli River in Chattogram is in full swing. The 3.4 km long four-lane road tunnel is also expected to be operational in December. This tunnel will be connected by road to the Asian Highway. 

Cox’s Bazar Rail line 

By the end of 2022, enthusiastic travellers people will be able to reach Cox's Bazar directly by train from Dhaka. About 100 km of the 126 km railway line from Dohazari in Chittagong to Ghumdhum via Ramu in Cox's Bazar is now visible. In addition to playing a role in the country's tourism sector, this railway will connect Bangladesh with the Trans-Asian Railway. As a result, Bangladesh will be connected with China, Malaysia and Thailand by rail.

By the end of 2022, the tourist city of Cox's Bazar can be reached by direct train from Dhaka. About 100 km of the 126 km railway line from Dohazari in Chittagong to Ghumdhum via Ramu in Cox's Bazar under construction is now visible. In addition to playing a role in the country's tourism sector, this railway will connect Bangladesh with the Trans-Asian Railway. As a result, Bangladesh will be connected with China, Malaysia and Thailand by rail. 

“We think that 2022 will be a special year for Bangladesh as three major development projects of the government - Padma Bridge, Metrorail and Karnaphuli Tunnel will be open for traffic between June and December this year," said Road Transport and Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader.
