Two workers have died while working on Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna. The workers died when they fell from the furnace while working inside the project on Monday afternoon. Another seriously injured worker was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Moni, 40, son of Waseb Ali of Char Rooppur area of Pakshi union in Ishwardi upazila and Madhab Chandra Sarkar, 44, son of Santosh Chandra Sarkar of Garadaha village in Shahjadpur of Sirajganj. The identity of the injured worker was still unknown. All three were employed by the Russian contractor Company.
According to police and project authority sources, construction work on the 2nd reactor of Rooppur project was unning. While working there, three workers suddenly fell from the furnace at around 1:15 pm and were seriously injured.
Later, other workers rescued them in critical condition and took them to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex. On-duty doctors there declared Moni and Madhab dead and the injured worker was sent to Rajshahi for treatment.
Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex Residential Medical Officer Dr Shafiqul Islam Shamim said two people named Moni and Madhab died even before reaching the hospital.
Ishwardi police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Asaduzzaman said the bodies were recovered and sent to Pabna morgue for autopsy. An unnatural death case has been filed with the police station in this regard.
