The Railways has decided to temporarily close the Sonar Bangla Express from Chittagong on Saturday and the Upakul Express on Sunday due to passenger crisis.
The matter has been confirmed by AMM Shahnewaz, Chief Operating Superintendent (COPS) of Eastern Railway.
Eastern Divisional Commercial Officer (DCO) Ansar Ali said the Sonar Bangla Express train would leave Dhaka for Chittagong on Saturday morning. The train will reach Chittagong at noon. However, Sonar Bangla Express will not leave for Dhaka in the afternoon.
Besides, the Upakul Express train will not leave Chittagong on Sunday. These two trains will be temporarily closed.
According to a press release signed by Railway Deputy Director (Traffic Transportation) Kalikant Ghosh, the number of passengers on the train is declining as the government has declared June 15 as a red zone and June 16 as a general holiday. For this, Sonar Bangla will be temporarily closed from Saturday and Upakul Express from Sunday.
There are no passengers on these two routes due to corona virus. There is no benefit in bringing and taking empty trains. So the two trains have been temporarily stopped. If the number of passengers increases, the two trains will be started again. Passenger traffic is normal on other routes in the country.
