Two pirates were arrested by police regarding a fisherman murder case in Barguna.

Al-Amin, 30, a fisherman, was shot dead by pirates in the Bay of Bengal, 40 km south of Barguna’s Patharghata, on March 13 last year. The body of the slain fisherman was recovered the next day.

Al-Amin's house is in Nishanbaria village of Barguna. Al-Amin's brother Sagir then filed a case with the Patharghata police station accusing the unidentified pirates.

Later, police arrested pirate Majedul Islam from Chattogram metropolitan area and Kawsar Hamid from Ghandamara in Bashkhali, after compiling a list of suspected pirates using technology recently.

Preliminary investigation and interrogation revealed evidence of involvement of the arrested persons in piracy in the Bay of Bengal.

According to the investigating officer, during the preliminary interrogation, Kawsar Hamid and Majeedul confessed to being involved in the robbery of a fishing trawler in the Bay of Bengal on March 13 last year. The court granted a 3-day remand to the arrested persons on Sunday after they were brought before the court.

The investigating officer further said, they are looking for the roots of the pirates and trying to arrest the other pirates through modern technology.
