Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested two active members of banned militant organization Neo JMB from the city on Monday evening.

Talking to the Bangladesh Post, SK Imran Hossain, Senior Assistant Commissioner of CTTC confirmed it on Tuesday.

He said, the arrested terrorists were identified as Saffat Islam, 17 and Yasir Arafat alias Shanto, 20. They are active members of Neo JMB’s slipper cell FZ Force.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of CTTC led by SK Imran raided at Sadarghat area around 6:55 pm on Monday.

Two mobile phone sets, a sharp dagger and hand written instructions for militant activities and other Jhihadist publications were seized from their possessions. CTTC sources said both the arrested terrorists are the members of military branch of the banned organization. They formed a new group named FZ Group consisting seven to eight members.

On July 4, Saffat left his Elephant Road residence while Arafat left his Keraniganj for military training and to recruit new members for Neo JMB.

They targeted to kill influential politicians and non-believers. To implement their plan, they were trying to collect arms and explosives.

They were communicating each other using social networking sites and different apps.

A case was filed under the Anti-terrorism act with Kotowali Police Station in this connection on August 18.

They were produced before a Dhaka Court seeking a seven days remand. However, the court granted a five day remand for each.

SK Imran said, “The arrested militants were preparing a hit list for killing.”

Responding to another question, the senior CTTC official said, “We shall interrogate them in our custody to know details of their target and plans.”
