UNB, Gopalganj: Two more cases have been filed in connection with the clashes centring the NCP rally in Gopalganj that left five people dead and scores injured on July 16.
Khorshed Alam, officer-in-charge of Tungipara Police Station, said sub-inspector Monir Hossain filed the case against 82 leaders and activists of Awami League and its student organisation under Special Power Act on Tuesday night.
The case was filed for creating panic among people and halted vehicular movement by torching tyres on the highway in Tungipara upazila in a bid to create an obstacle centering NCP rally in Gopalganj, according to the case statement.
Meanwhile, another case was filed with Sadar Police Station in connection with the clashes centering the NCP rally on Tuesday night.
Jailer of Gopalganj Jail filed the case against 160 identified leaders and activists of banned Chhatra League including district unit BCL president Newton Molla and its general secretary Ataur Rahman, said officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Mir Mohammad Sajedur Rahman and 1000 identified men.
Khorshed Alam, officer-in-charge of Tungipara Police station, said so far 29 people have been arrested in connection with the clashes from Tungipara upazila.
Five people were killed and scores injured when activists of the Awami League and its banned student wing Chhatra League reportedly carried out attacks on an NCP rally in Gopalganj.
Later, the government imposed a curfew in the district in the wake of the violence.
