Two people were killed following a collision between a truck and a rickshaw van in Lalpur upazila of Natore district.
The accident took place early around 6 am on Tuesday in the Kadimchilan intersection of the upazila on Natore-Pabna highway.
The deceased were identified as van driver, Alfu, 55 of the local Dhanaidah village and truck driver Mostakim Sheikh, 23, of Morrelganj upazila of Bagerhat.
Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge of Banpara Highway Police Station, said the accident happened when the rickshaw van, coming from a side road, entered the Natore-Pabna highway and collided head-on with the oncoming truck. The van driver Alfu died on the spot.
The truck lost control after the collision and crashed into a tree at the roadside. Fire service personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the truck driver, Mostakim, and his helper. They were taken to a local hospital, but Mostakim later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment, he added.
Locals said that the Kadimchilan intersection of the highway is known as an accident-prone area for a long time.
