2 killed in Rangpur road accident

Two bus passengers were killed and seven others, including police officials were injured in a road accident at Bishmile area of Pirganj upazila in Rangpur district on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Md Alamgir Hossain, 40, son of Abdus Samad, a resident of Gourango Bazar at Dhanbari upazila in Tangail district and Ashraful, 42, son of Amin Uddin, a resident of Hajipara area under Mokandbari Thana in Jamalpur district.

According to locals, a cargo truck en route from Dhaka to Rangpur was stopped on the highway in the Bishmile area. A patrol team from Barodaragah Highway Police Station was calling out to the driver to move the truck from the road.

At that moment, a passenger bus, coming from Jamalpur and heading towards Panchagarh collided with the truck from behind. The collision resulted in two bus passengers’ on-the-spot death.

The injured were immediately admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital and Mithapukur Upazila Hospital. Seriously injured Police Constable Mizan has been transferred to Dhaka National Orthopaedic Hospital for advanced treatment.

Confirming the incident, Barodaragah Highway Police Station in-charge Omar Faruk said that both vehicles involved in the accident have been taken into police custody and a case is currently being processed.
