2 Indian nationals held with US dollar at Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two Indian nationals along with $ 29,000 USD in separate drives at Amrakhali area of Benapole port police station on Thursday night.

The arrestees were identified as Ashok Biswas, 50, son of Jitendra Biwas of Debipur village at Gaighata police station, and Rakesh Mondal, 45, son of Golam Mandal in Dattapukur police station of North 24 Porgona in West Bengal.

The BGB members said that on Thursday afternoon, they arrested Rakesh Mondal with USD 25,000 from Amrakhali area, while they arrested Ashok Biswas with USD $ 4600 in the night.

Lt. Colonel Md. Selim Reza, Commanding Officer of 21 Border Guard Bangladesh, said that on intelligence information that huge amount of dollars being smuggled from India to Dhaka, a team of BGB raided Amrakhali area and arrested the two Indian national with US dollar. They were coming from India. The BGB handed over them to Benapole Port Police Station. A case were filed in this connection.

However, both confessed to the BGB that they had been smuggling huge US dollars from India for long time to reach Dhaka. Both are members of the international currency smuggling team, the BGB said.
