Two persons have been arrested for illegally stockpiling cigarettes worth around Tk 6 lakh and putting fake band rolls. Ishwardi police raided different areas of Ishwardi in Pabna around 2pm on Sunday and arrested them.

The two arrested are the store keeper and sales representative (SR) of Manmohan Cigarette Company in Dashuria Bazar area of the upazila. Shahjahan Ali is the owner of ‘Shahjahan Store’ in Rana and Chilimpur Bazar.

According to Ishwardi police sources, some seasonal traders in different areas of Ishwardi had been illegally stockpiling large quantities of Derby cigarettes of the British Tobacco Company for a long time in the hope of making more profit.

A search by sources to find out about the recovery and stockpiling of those illegal cigarettes, which could be detrimental to the company's quality, reveals its authenticity.

Police conducted raids in Dashuria, Sara, Aotapara, Chilimpur and Natun Hat areas of the upazila on Sunday afternoon to recover these illegally stored and counterfeit band rolls. Police raided these places and recovered illegally stocked Derby cigarettes worth Tk 6,23,200 and fake gold band rods worth Tk 1,84,000.

Officer-in-charge of Ishwardi Police Station Sheikh Nasir Uddin said the two were arrested for illegally stockpiling cigarettes and using fake band rolls. They have been sent to jail through the court.
