Members of Chattogram district police in a drive arrested two alleged drug traders with 1.6 lakh pieces of contraband Yaba tablets in the Chunoti area on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway under Lohagara Upazila of Chattogram district on Saturday.
Police also recovered one single barrel gun, 40 run cartridges and detained a covered van which is used for Yaba trading from their possession.
The arrested drug traders were identified as truck driver Farid Mia, 27 and his assistance Md Nur Hossain Sobuj, 25, both hailed from Cox's bazar district.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Lohagara thana police, halted a Chattogram-bound covered van and detained Farid and Sobuj with one lakh 60 thousand pieces yaba tablets in the Chunoti area on Chattogram-Cox's bazar highway under Lohagara Upazila of the district around 3:35 am last night.
Atiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Lohagara Police Station, told
journalists that the arrested persons confessed to involving with the
trading of Yaba.
Two separate cases were lodged with Lohagara thana and the arrested persons along with the contraband items were sent to the court, he added.
