Police arrested two men Sunday on charge of detonating a cocktail-like explosive device - described as a chocolate bomb - at Dhanmondi 32, the old road number 32 where the Bangabandhu Museum is located.

The arrestees were identified as Abdul Halim, 29, and Halim Raj, 34.

According to police, the explosion occurred just beside Santoor restaurant, located on 32 where it meets the Mirpur Road, around 5:30pm on Sunday.

Parvez Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhanmondi Police Station, said “Halim Raj, who writes stories and poems about Bangabandhu and his family, had been attempting to get his works noticed by the prime minister for a long time. Despite his efforts, he couldn't find a way to reach her.”

A frustrated Raj sought the help of a man named Kishore, to whom he paid Tk35,000 to make sure he gets noticed. Even with Kishore's assistance, he couldn't get his stories and poems to the prime minister, according to the police's account.

Today's incident was a culmination of this growing sense of frustration on the part of Raj. Desperate to attract attention to their cause, the two individuals resorted to creating homemade chocolate bombs.”

“They are being interrogated. We seized 20 cocktail-like chocolate bombs from the scene,” said OC Parvez.
