Two people were awarded life-term imprisonment by the separate courts in two cases in Satkhira district on Wednesday.
District and Session Judge Mohammad Alim Al Raji sentenced one Abdur Rahman, 20, to life term imprisonment for killing a girl in 2022 in Kalaroa upazila.
According to the prosecution, on March 27 in 2022 the girl went missing from her village. On information, police recovered the body of the girl the next day. She was a student of class eight. Following the murder the girl's mother filed a case on March 28 with the concerned police station. Testifying witnesses and evidence, the judge pronounced the verdict in the presence of Abdur Rahman. The court also fined him Taka one lakh, in default, to suffer one more year more in jail. Besides, another court sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for raping a girl at Monipur village in Assasuni upazila of the district in 2010. Judge of Satkhira Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal MG Azam pronounced the verdict in absence of convict Rabiul Islam, 35, said Public Prosecutor advocate Abdul Latif. The court also fined him Taka 10,000.
