2 drug dealers killed in Dinajpur ‘gunfight’

Two alleged drug dealers were killed in a reported gunfight with the Detective Branch (DB) of police at Ramsagar Tajpur in Sadar upazila of Dinajpur on Sunday night.

The deceased were identified as Abul Kashem, 38, and Rahmat Ali, 32. Both hailed from Sipahipara and were accused in cases filed under the Narcotics Control Act.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dinajpur Detective Branch of police ATM Golam Rasul confirmed the matter. He said that their team took position near a road in the area around 1:30am to seize a gang of drug dealers.

When the DB team challenged the gang passing through the area, the criminals opened fire, triggering a gunfight, the OC said.

After the gunfight, the DB team recovered two bodies from the spot. Later, the bodies were sent to hospital for most mortem, he added.

Besides, Sub-Inspector Nahid Hasan and Constable Mahabub Alam of DB were also injured in the incident, Golam Rasul claimed.

The DB team recovered 150 bottles of phensedyl, a firearm, bullets and Yaba pills from the spot, the OC added. A general diary was made by Dinajpur District DB in this connection.
