Two people, including a woman, were killed and two others were injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Gorai Mill Gate area under Mirzapur Upazila of Tangail on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Forina Begum, 55, wife of late Dulal Hossain, resident of Ramdanga village in Dimla Upazila of Nilphamari district and bus supervisor Mugni Mia, 35, son of Abdul Khalek, resident of Baburhat village of the same district.
Police and witnesses said a Dhaka bound passenger bus coming from Nilphamari reached at the Gorai Mill Gate area of the highway and hit a parked truck carrying electric poles in the morning. The front glass of the bus was shattered in the accident, leaving two people dead on the spot.
Anisuzzaman, Sub-Inspector of Gorai Highway Police Station in Mirzapur, said both the bus and the truck were seized. The bodies of the deceased will be handed over to their families after completing the legal procedures, he added.
