Two people have died in Khulna city after drinking poisonous alcohol on Monday. The deceased were identified as Arun Das, 60, son of Babu Lal Das of Sonadanga Moylapota Harijan Colony under Sonadanga Model Police Station and Neela Das, 62, son of Kele Das of the same colony.
According to local sources, Arun Das and Neela Das bought spirits or poisonous alcohol on Sunday afternoon. They managed the toxic liquor from a homeopathic shop amid the coronavirus lockdown.
Among them, Arun Das fell seriously ill on Monday afternoon and was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
In the same incident, Neela Das was first taken to Shivsa Nursing Home and later to Khulna Medical College Hospital. He also died in the afternoon while undergoing treatment there.
Their bodies were sent to morgue of the hospital for autopsy. Dr. Anol Roy, Assistant Registrar, Department of Medicine, Khulna Medical College Hospital, said that Arun Das and Neela Das died while undergoing treatment after drinking poisonous alcohol.
Officer-in-Charge of Sonadanga Model Police Station Mamtazul Haque confirmed the death of a man named Arun Das but could not give details.
