Two cousins were murdered at Dhuliapara village at Kachua in Jhenaidah on Monday. The deceased were identified as Abhi Mandal, 25, and his cousin Laltu Mandal, 45, son of Lokman Mandal.
Five others were injured in an attack of rivals. Of them injured Lokman Mandal, 65, was referred to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital in a critical state from Shailkupa upazila Health Complex.
Family members of the deceased alleged that inspector of Kachua police investigation centre Pear Ali did not take any measures against the attacker Khan family after repeated requests.
Local and police sources said that both Mandal group and Khan Group of the village were locked in rivalry following domination in the area for couple of decades.
Some Ayub Ali Musalli belongs to Mandal group was beaten up by the Khan group men while he was working at his cropland on Maay 7.
When Mandal group leader Makbul Hossain and his nephew Rakibul Islam Palash arrived at Rashid Khan group’s house for asking the reason, Khan group men chopped the duo. Mandal group men protesting the attack had beaten up Khan group man Abed Khan.
To take the revenge the supporters of Rashid Khan swooped on the houses of Mandal group and started chopping the family members indiscriminately left Abhi Mandal, Laltu Mandal, Laltu’s father Lokman Mandal and some others severely injured.
The injured were taken to Shailkupa upazila health complex while the attending physicians declared Abhi Mandal and Laltu Mandal dead.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shailkupa police station Bazlur Rahman said Senior police officials visited the village. They are trying to nab the killers. Additional police men were deployed in the village to avoid further tense, he added.
