Two college students died from drinking poisonous alcohol at Bangram under Ataikula Police Station in Pabna's Santhia Upazila on Thursday night.

The deceased were identified as Shubho Saha, 22, son of Nandadulal and Akash Saha, 18, son of Subash of Bangram village. The deceased were friends of each other.

It is learned that, marking Akash’s younger sister’s birthday on Thursday a ceremony was organized at Akash’s home. Later, at night Akash and Shubho drank poisonous alcohol, when everyone else was sleeping.

Akash, a student of Pabna Polytechnic College, and Shubho, a 3rd year student of Dhaka Stamford College, fell seriously ill after drinking the poisonous liquor.

When Akash was taken to Pabna General Hospital at night, the doctor on duty declared him dead, while Shubho died at around 2am when his relatives reached Bera in Pabna taking him to Enayetpur Hospital in Sirajganj.

The death of two friends from the same neighborhood at the same time  cast a shadow of mourning over the area. Even a few months ago, two other people died due to poisonous alcohol consumption in Santhia’s Dhulauri.
