Two minor girls drowned in a pond during taking bath at Srinibashdi village under Arihazar police station in the district on Sunday noon.
The ill-fated were identified as Sumaiya, 7, daughter of Kawser Ali, an expatriate in Malaysia and Arifa, 9, daughter of Baset Mia, resident at Srinibashdi village of Araihazar upazila.
Relatives of the deceased Masum Bepari told that they both went to the pond to take bath at 12 noon and they drowned as they did not know how to swim.
Locals rescued the children, rushed to Araihazar upazila health complex where on duty doctor Abdullah-Al-Kamal declared them dead.
Officer-In-Charge of Araihazar police station Nazmul Islam told that after receiving information police were sent to the spot and the legal procedure would be taken.
