2 cases filed against detained Indian fisherman

Two cases were filed against Indian fisherman Pronob Mandol who was detained by Border Guard Bangladesh from Charghat upazila border area in Rajshahi.

BGB Charghat border outpost’s member Humayun Kabir filed the cases with Charghat police station on Thursday night. Earlier on Thursday morning, the BGB members caught Pronob Mandol red handed for crossing Bangladesh territory in Rajshahi border and fishing defying Hilsa fishing ban.

Meanwhile, he was sent to jail through the court order on Friday.

Confirming the matter, Charghat police station officer in charge Somit Kumar Kundu said that Pronob, son of Basonto Mandol and resident of Shahebnagar Chirachar area of Jolongi upazila under Murshidabad district in India. After interrogation, however, he was handed over to Charghat police station. Later, he was sent to the jail through the court order showing arrest.

In reply to question, Rajshahi BGB-1 commanding officer lieutenant colonel Ferdous Ziya Uddin Mahmud in this regard said the Bangladesh Post that BGB members detained Pronob for catching Hilsa defying Hilsa fishing ban. Seeing this, the BSF members came to the Bangladesh border illegally to get rid of him. They fired at first at the BGB members. But they claimed now BGB members killed one BSF member and another was also injured in firing. The BGB and BSF’s higher officials will investigate the incident, BGB-1 commanding officer Ferdous Ziya Uddin Mahmum said.
