2 'Boat' supporters hurt in clash

Two activists of the Awami League (AL) candidate contesting with the symbol Boat were injured in a clash between the supporters of the Awami League nominated candidate and the Independent candidate some 200 yards away from the Digha Polling Centre of the Rajshahi-6 (Charghat-Bagha) constituency around 9-00 a.m. Sunday. 

According to local sources, Rezaul Karim and Mission Sarker, two activists of the Awami League nominated candidate State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shariar Alam contesting with the 'Boat' symbol were coming towards Naotika-Arifpur Polling Centre under the Bajubagha Union of Bagha upazila.

 During this time they locked into an altercation with the supporters of the Independent candidate Rahenul Haque Raihan who is contesting with the symbol 'Scissor.' At a stage of the altercation, supporters of Raihan assaulted Rezaul Karim son of Golap Hossain of Arifpur Dewan para village and Mission Sarker son of Kalam Hossain injuring them severely. They were admitted to Bahga Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

On the other hand, a cocktail was blasted some 200 yards away off Digha Primary School Polling Centre around 9-00 a.m. Sunday. Locals Monirul Islam and Hanif Ali said, hearing the booming sound of the cocktail blast, voters at the centre turned panicky and many voters did not dare to approach the Polling Centre to cast their votes. 

Aminul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Bagha Police Station informed Law Enforcement Agency Members were active in keeping the poll environment safe and sound.
