The Metropolitan Magistrate Court-4 here today sent two staff of Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) to jail in a case lodged over beating two journalists at the BMDA head office recently.

Magistrate Faisal Tareque passed the order as police produced them before the court.

On behalf of the accused, lawyers pleaded for their bail. After hearing both sides, the Magistrate passed the order after rejecting their bail petition.

The detained staff are-- storekeeper Muhammad Zibon and driver Abdus Sabur.

Earlier, police arrested them from the BMDA's rest house at Mohammadpur in Dhaka around 4 am today.

On September 5 last, some BMDA officials and staff beat and physically assaulted Bulbul Habib and his cameraperson Rubel Islam of ATN News while

they were performing their duties at the BMDA head office.

Later, Bulbul Habib lodged a case with Rajpara Police Station in this connection.

The incident has created huge resentment and anger in the journalist

community as well as other concerned. They also staged protest rallies and
