Two Bangladeshi youths were shot to death by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the India-Bangladesh border at Betna under Haripur upazila in Thakurgaon early Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Rabiul Islam, 27, son Abdul Mazid of Baliadangi upazila, and Nazir Uddin, 28, son of late Bhaku Mohammad from Manikkhari village of Haripur upazila.
According to police and BGB sources, Nazir and Rabiul along with their associates were attempting to trespass over to India on early Tuesday to bring home cattle illegally. After spotting the cattle traders, BSF members at Phulbari border point opened fire on them leaving Nazir and Rabiul injured. They were rescued back home by their associates but later died on way to Haripur upazila health complex.
Haripur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Aurangzeb said the bodies have been sent to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
A preparation to file a case in this connection was underway, he added.
