Covid-19 in Bangladesh

2,868 new cases, 41 deaths a day

The number of confirmed Covid-19 patients surged to 287,959 in Bangladesh with the detection of 2,868 new cases on Thursday.

The death count rose to 3,822 with new 41 fatalities in the last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement.

The recovery count rose to 168,911 after another 3,253 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the period.

A total of 14,059 samples were tested at 91 authorised laboratories across the country during the time.

Of the total sample tests in the past 24 hours, 20.40 percent tested positive, while 20.46 percent cases were detected from the total 14,07,556 tests conducted so far since January.

Among the total infections, 58.69 percent patients have recovered, while 1.33 percent died so far since the first COVID-19 positive cases were reported in the country on March 8. The first death was reported on March 18.

Of the latest fatalities, 32 were male and nine female. One of them is in his 20s, one in his 30s, one in his 40s, eight in their 50s, while 30 are above 60 years.

According to the division-wise data, 19 deaths took place in Dhaka division, eight in Khulna division and the rest are in other divisions.

The WHO declared the disease pandemic on March 11. Wearing masks, maintaining at least 3 feet physical distance and washing hands with soap have been recommended by the WHO to prevent the virus from spreading.
