Bangladesh on Thursday registered 2,856 new cases positive for coronavirus, 50 deaths and 2,006 recoveries from the disease in 24 hours.
With that, the total number of cases surged to 216,110. Of them, 2,801 died and 119,208 recovered.
Prof Nasima Sultana, additional director general for health, said at the daily briefing that 12,398 samples have been tested during the period at 80 designated laboratories.
Of the latest dead patients, 41 were men and nine were women – 47 died in different hospitals and three at their respective homes.
Twenty of them were from Dhaka, seven each from Rangpur and Khulna, six from Rajshahi, five from Chattogram, four from Barishal, and one from Sylhet division.
Bangladesh first confirmed the cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18. The WHO declared the virus pandemic on March 11.
So far, 55.16 percent of patients recovered in Bangladesh while 1.30 percent died.
Currently, 59,591 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,859 newly-quarantined individuals.
Some 360,200 people have completed their quarantine course.
The authorities placed 697 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 18,860 after 26,341 left.
