Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) Station Chandpur conducting a special operation seized 2,500 kg of Jatka (young hilsa) from the estuary of Meghna River in Chandpur on Friday midnight.

The huge quantity of Jatka worth about Tk 7.5 lakh was recovered from three passenger-launch named MV Sonar Tori-2, MV Tasrif-3 and MV Shahruk-1.

It was not possible to arrest anyone in this connection, as the real owners of the seized Jatka were not found in the operation. The seized Jatka was later distributed among local orphanages and destitute in the presence of the Executive Magistrate and Assistant Fisheries Officer.

Regular operations will be carried out in the areas under the jurisdiction of Bangladesh Coast Guard to maintain law and order, curb robberies, ensure public safety as well as to prevent illegal Jatka fishing, said BCG sources.
