The foreign ministry has said that they are keeping eyes on the Bangladeshis stuck in different countries due to the coronavirus lockdown. About 2,500 Bangladeshis are stuck in neighbouring India alone. Of them 1000 are students. The foreign ministry in a statement on Friday said they would bring back the Bangladesh citizens once the situation becomes convenient.
“The government is firmly committed to bring them back quickly who got stuck in India and other countries.” India is under 21-day lockdown until April 14 which began on March 25 to stem the spread of coronavirus. A large number of Bangladesh citizens visit India every year for treatment, tourism and education purposes.
The Bangladesh High Commission earlier said they opened hotline number so that people can contact with them in need. In its website, they said citizens can whatsapp in this number +91 85955 52494 for New Delhi mission. For Mumbai, citizens are asked to whatsapp: +91 98331 59930
The foreign ministry said they are working to find ways for bringing them back. The High Commission in New Delhi said they are in touch with the India’s External Affairs Ministry to work out a ‘proper plan’ since Bangladeshis are not staying in one city of India. Apart from external links, India also disconnected all the internal links for the movement between one state to another.
