Covid-19 in Bangladesh

2,485 new cases, 42 deaths

Bangladesh on Monday registered 2,485 new cases of coronavirus within 24 hours and 42 more deaths from diseases.

During the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 3,784 patients were declared free from the virus.

With that, the number of total cases reached to 297,083, deaths 3,983 and recoveries 182,875.

The recovery rate among the confirmed patients is 61.56 percent while the death rate is 1.34 percent.

In the last 24 hours till 8am, 13,382 were tested in 91 labs across the country.

Bangladesh first confirmed the disease on March 8 and the first death on March 18. The WHO declared the virus pandemic on March 11.

Of the latest victims, 31 were men and eleven were women.

Of them, 21 hailed from Dhaka, seven from Chattogram, six from khulna, three from Rajshahi, two each from Rangpur and Mymensingh, and one from Barishal division.

Thirty-eight of them have died in different hospitals and four at their respective residences.

Majority of the patients who died were aged sixty and above.

Currently, 52,727 people are quarantined across the country – including 1,897 newly-quarantined individuals.

A total of 430,194 people have completed their quarantine course.

The authorities placed 820 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 20,287 after 46,940 left.

So far 1,456,038 samples have been tested in Bangladesh since January to find out cases. Of them, 20.40 percent came out positive for the virus.
