2,436 new cases, 45 deaths in a day

Bangladesh on Thursday registered 2,436 new cases of coronavirus, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 304,583.

During the period till 8am, 45 patients died of the disease, raising the death toll to 4,127.

The recovery count also surged to 193,458 with 3,275 patients released from different facilities within 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a statement.

The recovery rate is 63.52 percent while the death rate is 1.35 percent.

Some 15,124 samples were tested in the last 24 hours in 92 labs across the country, according to the daily update.

Of the latest victims, 34 were men and 11 were women.

Of them, 22 hailed from Dhaka, 10 from Chattogram, six from Rangpur, five from khulna, and one each from Rajshahi and Sylhet division. Forty-two of them have died in different hospitals and three at their respective residences.

About 50 percent of the victims were aged sixty and above.

Currently, 52,405 people are quarantined across the country – including 1,811 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 436,418 people have completed their quarantine course.

The authorities placed 748 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 20,149 after 49,147 left.

Bangladesh first detected the virus on March 8 and the first death on March 18. The WHO declared the virus pandemic on March 11.

So far 1,500,385 samples have been tested in Bangladesh since January. Of them, 20.30 percent came out positive for the virus.
