2,200 farmers get agri-incentives in Natore

The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) today distributed seeds and fertilizers free of cost as agricultural incentives among 2,200 small and marginal farmers during the current Rabi season in Bagatipara upazila of the district.

Member of Parliament for Natore-1 constituency Md Shahidul Islam Bakul distributed the incentives among the farmers as the chief guest at a function held at Upazila Parishad premises with Upazila Executive Officer (Acting) Suraiya Momtaz in the chair.

The chief guest said that there is no alternative to increasing production to meet the food demand of the growing population in the country.

The current government is working tirelessly for the development of agriculture and farmers. The government is giving regular incentives to the small and marginal farmers for the production of various seasonal crops. Beneficiary farmers using incentive seeds and fertilizers are expected to contribute to meeting food demand through crop production.

Upazila Parishad Chairman Md. Ahidul Islam Gokul, Bagatipara Upazila Awami League President Nurul Islam Thandu, freedom fighter Shyamal Roy, among others, spoke at the function.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Bhavsindhu Roy said that among the selected farmers 1200 were given 5-kg of seeds of Ufshi Boro seeds and-10 kg of DAP and 10-kg of MOP fertilizers each and 2-kg of hybrid Boro seeds each to 1,000 farmers for their one bigha of land.

The seeds and fertilizers were distributed under the agricultural incentive and rehabilitation programme in the current Rabi season with a view to increasing the production of Boro paddy.
