Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit Chattogram on October 28 to inaugurate the country's first tunnel built under Karnaphuli in Chattogram. During the visit, she will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of 19 more projects besides the tunnel.
According to district administration sources, the Prime Minister's itinerary this year includes Bangabandhu Tunnel, Chattogram Muslim Institute Cultural Complex, Zila Parishad Tower, Rangunia and Anwara Zila Parishad Dak Bungalow, Sheikh Kamal Auditorium cum Multipurpose Hall in Patiya, Sheikh Kamal Complex in Raojan, 9 in CGS Colony in Agrabad. High-rise residential buildings, Bangabandhu mural at the airport and PC girder bridge over the Shikalbaha canal.
The tunnel work is almost complete. 10 thousand 689 crore taka are being spent on the construction of the tunnel. Bangladesh Bridge Authority is implementing this project. China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCCL) of China acted as the contractor. The Chattogram Muslim Institute Cultural Complex project is being implemented by the Department of Public Libraries. This project was initiated by the Ministry of Culture. The progress of project work is 87 percent. Project value of Muslim Institute project is Tk 281.39 crore, expenditure so far is Tk 207.71 crore.
Zila Parishad Tower project progress of work is 80 percent. The cost of this project was estimated at 81 crore 29 lakh 45 thousand taka. Chattogram Zila Parishad is implementing this project with its own funding. The work of Rangunia Zila Parishad Dak Bungalow has been completely completed. Zilla Parishad has implemented this project. The cost of the project was estimated at 1 crore 63 lakh 84 thousand taka. 1 crore 21 lakh 76 thousand taka has been spent so far. Anwara Zila Parishad Dak Bungalow work is also full complete.
This project has also been implemented by the Zila Parishad. The cost of the project was estimated at 2 crore taka. 1 crore 48 lakh 21 thousand taka has been spent so far. 85 percent completion of Sheikh Kamal Auditorium cum Multipurpose Hall in Patiya. Chattogram Zila Parishad is implementing. The cost of this project was estimated at 20 crore 12 lakh 61 thousand taka. 16 crore 9 lakh 44 thousand taka has been spent so far. Work on Sheikh Kamal Complex in Raojan is full complete. The cost of this project was estimated at 7 crore 30 lakh 89 thousand taka. 7 crore 31 lakh 27 thousand 117 taka has been spent.
The work of nine multi-storied residential buildings for government officials and employees at CGS Colony in Agrabad is also near completion. The project has been implemented by Chattogram Public Works Division(PWD)-4. The cost of this project was estimated at 482 crore 93 lakh taka. 472 crore 23 lakh taka has been spent so far. Bangabandhu mural at Chattogram Airport has also been completed. Which has been implemented by Chattogram City Corporation (CCC). The cost has been estimated at 84 lakh taka.
PC girder bridge construction over Shikalbaha canal on Uzirpur road of Patiya upazila has been completed. Which has been implemented by the local government engineering department. The cost of the project was estimated at 49 crore 48 lakh 60 thousand taka. 45 crore 25 lakh 60 thousand taka has been spent so far.
Meanwhile, the foundation stone laying list includes liberation war memorial and museum in Chattogram, construction of Sheikh Hasina road from airport to Bangabandhu tunnel and Seamen’s hostel complex building. The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs will implement the Liberation War Memorial and Museum project. Chattogram City Corporation will implement Sheikh Hasina road project from Airport to Bangabandhu Tunnel. The cost of which has been estimated at 25 crore taka. About 50 percent of the project has been completed. And the cost of construction of Siemens Hostel Complex building for sailors has been estimated at 59 crore 14 lakh 13 thousand taka.
Also, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various projects implemented by the Chattogram district administration. These include DC Park, Boat Museum, 191 Union playgrounds and cultural centers, school bus services, tourism services including tourist buses, river and full day tours, Bird's Park modernization of the zoo.
Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Abul Bashar Md. Fakhruzzaman said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of a total of 20 projects including the Bangabandhu Tunnel during her visit to Chattogram. Among them there are seven projects of Chattogram district administration. Many are almost finished. Those that have not will be completed by June next year.'
