187 die, 12,148 infected in 24-hrs

Bangladesh registered 187 more deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Friday, taking the death toll to 17,465.    

The number of fatalities has declined significantly compared to the previous day. 226 people died on Thursday from coronavirus. 

The country recorded 12,148 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 10,83,922 according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday. 

Earlier on July 11, 230 people died in the country, which is the highest number of deaths recorded in the span of a single day since March 8, when the first case of coronavirus was detected. On July 7, the death toll crossed 200 for the first time. 201 people died on that day.

The death rate now stands at 1.61 percent in the country, added the release. 

The current positivity rate stands at 28.96 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 15.08 percent. 

Among the 187 deceased, 113 were men, and 74 were women. Of the victims, 175 died in different hospitals across the country and 12 died at home. 

68 of the deceased were from the Dhaka division, 39 from Khulna, 36 from Chattogram, 14 from Rajshahi, nine from Sylhet, eight from Barisal, seven from Mymensingh and six from Rangpur division.

A total of 41,947 samples were tested across the country till 8am Friday. 

During this period 8,536 Covid-19 patients have recovered. Up until now, a total of 9,14,343 people have recovered from the virus and the recovery rate stands at 84.36 percent.  

As of Friday, 4,085,915 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 189,888,905 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
