18 smugglers of Habiganj have pledged to stay away from all kinds of crimes. They were involved in smuggling various goods including drugs from India.

The smugglers came to the office of BGB Habiganj Battalion Commander SNM Samiunnabi Chowdhury and made this written promise. From now on they will be under observation. However, action will be taken if they get involved in smuggling again.

On Tuesday afternoon, Commandee Saminnabi said the 18 pledgers were residents of Mantala area of Madhabpur upazila in Habiganj. They were involved in illegal import of goods including drugs from India. There are also arrest warrants against some of them whereas, some have claimed to have deviated from this path.

He added that BGB was conducting regular raids on the houses of those 18 smugglers, so they felt socially disrespected. Under pressure from the BGB, they were forced to pledge not to engage in criminal activities. They have been given the opportunity to get back to normal life.
