18 Rohingyas detained while fleeing Bhasanchar

Locals have detained 16 Rohingyas, including 10 children, in the Chairman Ghat area while fleeing from the Hatiyar Bhasanchar Asylum Project in Noakhali. They were later handed over to the police.

They were apprehended from the forest of Chatlarghat in Chairman Ghat around 2pm on Thursday. SI Zaher, in-charge of Chairman Ghat police outpost, confirmed that the detainees would be sent back to Bhasanchar through the Rohingya Rehabilitation Authority. 

The detainees are Idris, Shukatara, Mizanur Rahman, Taslima (9), Nur Hasan, Nurul Amin, Rashida Begum, Rozina Akter, Muntaha (7), Shakhayet, Shaheen Fatema, Fahad, Syed Ahmed, Khatija, Minara (6). Ankish, Mo Humayun and Yasin.

Hatia Police Officer-in-Charge Anwarul Islam said 10 children and six adult Rohingya men and women tried to escape from the Bhasanchar shelter project on Thursday night through a gang of brokers. At around 2 am, the boat carrying them dropped them off in a forest at Chatlaghat next to Chairman Ghat. Later, when the locals came to know about the incident, they arrested them and informed the police outpost. The police brought them to the outpost.
