The authorities concerned have put at least 17 districts in lockdown with more than 22 other districts in partial lockdown to combat the coronavirus.
The districts, which have already been locked down, are Sylhet, Khulna, Rangpur, Noakhali, Cumilla, Cox’s Bazar, Narayanganj, Narsingdi, Kishoreganj, Tangail, Chandpur, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Gaibanda, Lalmonirhat, Satkhira and Pirojpur.
Dhaka and Narayanganj were identified as the worst affected areas after most of the patients tested positive were detected there.
Many areas in Dhaka have already been locked down. According to police, about 75 affected roads, areas and neighbourhoods in the capital are in lockdown. Mirpur is one of the worst affected areas in the capital.
Mirpur division’s deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mostak Ahmed said that they are putting areas in lock down soon after the IEDCR detects infection in an area.
IEDCR data showed that Dhaka division is the worst affected area among the districts recording COVID-19 infection cases, while no district of Rajshahi division has detected any such cases.
Like Dhaka, the authorities concerned locked down a number of buildings and areas in Chattogram city after some people tested positive for Covid-19.
On the other hand, Narayanganj has been under lockdown since April 8 (Wednesday). Dhaka’s divisional commissioner Mostafizur Rahman said that transport communication from Narayanganj to other districts was restricted. “Since Narayanganj is one of the badly affected areas and people from the district may tend to move elsewhere, we have put strict restrictions in movement,” he said.
The district administration on April 8 imposed a complete lockdown on Cox’s Bazar district where more than 12 lakh Rohingya refugees have been living for years in makeshift tents. “For the public interest, Cox’s Bazar was declared on lockdown,” said Deputy Commissioner Md. Kamal Hossain.
Alongside Cox’s Bazar, Cumilla, Noakhal and Chandpur of Chattogram division are in lockdown, said Chattogram divisional commissioner ABM Azad.
Noakhali district administration on April 9 declared that Noakhali is locked down from the morning of April 10. On the other hand, Chandpur district was locked down on April 7. Deputy Commissioner of Chandpur Md Mazedur Rahman announced the decision after a meeting of Coronavirus Control and Prevention District Committee on that day.
Cumilla district put under complete lockdown from April 10 to curb the spread of novel coronavirus.
The Chuadanga administration banned to ply transports in Chuadanga district from April 10. No transport is allowed to come in Chuadanga and out going from Chuadanga, a press note is issued in this regards by District Magistrate and DC Nazrul Islam Sarker on April 9.
According to a press note, coronavirus patients have been detected some districts of the country. So people of these districts may come in Chuadanga district by any transports. For this reason all transports have been declared to stop coming in Chuadanga except medical and necessary commodity carrying vehicles. The order will be existed until further order.
It may be mentioned here that there are about 100 vendors are in Chuadanga district town. They sell vegetables and spices using rickshaw vans. Chuadanga district administration and upazila administrations asked them to sell these items door to door bearing a poster on coronavirus. The program started from April 9.
Shohel Hossain so called Biai, a vendor, said I am selling vegetables items at Hoquepara, Belgachi, Dakkhin Haspatalpar, Shantipar and Bananipara in the town.
The district administration on April 10 announced that Kishoreganj would be placed under lockdown until further notice in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus.
Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner Md Sarwar Murshed Chowdhury said that no one will be allowed to enter Kishoreganj from other districts or leave Kishoreganj during the lockdown, the directive also read, adding that road and water transport communication between Kishoreganj and other districts will also remain suspended until further notice. Legal steps will be taken against those found violating the directives, it added.
Jamalpur and Sherpur are put in lockdown as several cases have been detected there and parts of Mymensingh are also in lock down, said Mymensingh divisional commissioner Khandoker Mustafizur Rahman.
Deputy Commissioner of Jamalpur Md Enamul Haque said all steps have been taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the district.
The authorities concerned placed Lalmonirhat district under lockdown from April 8. The authorities concerned first locked down Shibchar upazila of Madaripur district, on March 19.
The government declared a general holiday on March 26 to contain the virus' spread and ensure social distancing. The holiday was ultimately extended until April 14.
