16th Int’l Short and Independent Film Festival Dhaka begins

The 16th International Short and Independent Film Festival Dhaka (ISIFF) 2022 begin today February 25 with films from 130 countries and continue till March 4.

This year’s ISIFF will feature 414 films including more than 60 short films that recently screened at Cannes, Berlin, Acker, Sundance, Locarno and Busan Film Festivals, said Bangladesh Short Film Forum at press conference held at Reporter’s Unity auditorium on Wednesday February 23.

Regarding the context Film Festival Chairman Nasir Uddin Yusuf said, “It is basically an art, literature and social movement. Films from different parts of the world will be showcased, which will be a great opportunity to know different arts and literature. Especially, for the younger generation who can learn from the seniors and be inspired as well.”

The festival will also be held in Rajshahi and Chattogram under the title “Traveling Festival”. Zahirul Islam Kochi, vice chairman of the festival, said, “This year’s festival will be held at seven venues in Dhaka. It will also be taken to different parts of the country so that film lovers outside Dhaka city can watch the world class films.”

in addition, a total of three awards will be given to the best films among the short films screened at the festival. Hiralal Sen Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to eminent filmmakers Tanvir Mokammel and Manzarehasin Murad. This year's festival is dedicated to Bangabandhu and the heroic freedom fighters.
