A total of 39 individuals, including 16 prominent former ministers, advisers, senior bureaucrats, and police officials from the administration of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, have been produced before the International Crimes Tribunal in connection with seven separate cases of crimes against humanity.
The accused include former law minister Anisul Huq, former education minister Dipu Moni, former industries minister Amir Hossain Amu, former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and former adviser to the prime minister on private industry and investment Salman F Rahman.
The seven cases relate to allegations of mass killings, murder, and torture committed during the July uprising.
In the morning, 14 of the accused, including Anisul Huq, were transported from Keraniganj Central Jail to the tribunal by a prison van.
Another 14 individuals, including former NTMC Director Ziaul Ahsan, were brought from the special jail in Keraniganj.
Meanwhile, Dipu Moni and 14 others were transferred from Kashimpur Jail, and former minister Golam Dastagir Gazi was produced from Narayanganj Jail.
Among the 39 accused are nine former ministers, members of parliament, and senior police officials. They have been charged in connection with multiple cases, including the widely known Mugdha murder case and other incidents from Narsingdi, Cox's Bazar, and Sylhet.
According to the prosecution, the tribunal has scheduled on Sunday for the submission of investigation reports concerning the crimes against humanity allegedly committed during July and August last year.
Prosecutors said that if investigations are not yet complete, they will request additional time from the tribunal.
