A Khulna court on Sunday sentenced 16 people to life term imprisonment for killing Senior Vice President of Gopalganj municipality Awami League(AL) Asaduzzaman alias Titu on 2018.
The court also acquitted 15 people of the charges brought against them have not been proved in the trial.
Judge of Speedy Trial Tribunal of Khulna division Md Nazrul Islam Howlader handed down the verdict in presence of 31 witnesses.
Court sources said, a band of criminals chopped Titu, also director of Sharif Bricks and Sharif Fisheries, to death at Char Singati village under Naragati upazila in Narail over land dispute on July 1, 2018.
Ashiquzzaman Sharif, brother of the deceased, filed a case against 18 identified and 12 unnamed accused with Naragati Police Station in this connection on the following day.
Sub Inspector (SI) of Naragati Police Station and also investigation officer Nimai Chandra Mondal pressed charge sheet against 31 before the court on July 24, 2019.
The criminals who awarded life terms are Sentu Chowdhury, Palash Chowdhury, Abdullah , Bakkar Chowdhury, Sohel Chowdhury, Shaheedul Sheikh, Palash Khan alias Chowdhury Khan, Tuhin.Molla alias Mahmud Hasan, Sabuz Molla, Masud Molla, Rafiqul Molla, Natun Chowdhury alias Ramzan, Chowdhury Moshiur Rahman, Aliullah alias Babu Chowdhury Tariqul Sarder and Zihad Chowdhury.
