Police have filed a case against 159 individuals, including a recently expelled Jubo Dal leader, in connection with a protest in Sylhet’s Jaflong that obstructed the motorcade of two government advisers.

Sub-Inspector Obaidullah of Goainhat Police Station filed the case on Sunday night, naming eight accused and listing 151 others as unidentified. Jubo Dal leader Zahid Khan has been named as the prime accused, according to Goainhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sarkar Tofael Ahmed.

Sylhet Superintendent of Police Mahbubur Rahman said it took time to identify the suspects from video footage aired by various media outlets. He confirmed that law enforcement is conducting drives to apprehend those involved.

Among the named accused is Azir Uddin, president of the local unit of Chhatra Dal, who has also been linked to a stone syndicate reportedly active after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5.

The protest, led by Zahid and Azir on Saturday, allegedly disrupted the official motorcade of Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan and Power and Energy Adviser Mohammad Fouzul Kabir Khan during their visit to Jaflong.

The case was filed nearly 30 hours after the incident took place.
