A Biman Bangladesh special flight carrying 153 stranded citizens is on the way to Dhaka from London.

This is the second chartered flight the Bangladesh High Commission in London arranged during the pandemic that forced countries to cut air links.

The High Commission said the BG 4106 flight left Heathrow for Dhaka on Saturday at 10:30am local time. It will reach Hazrat Shahjalal International airport at 00:30am on Sunday.

High Commissioner Saida Muna Tasneem saw off the returning passengers at the airport.

She expressed her “deepest gratitude” to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for this special flight.

The Prime Minister earlier instructed all Bangladeshi missions abroad to take necessary steps for the safe repatriation of citizens stranded in different countries amid coronavirus pandemic.

The High Commissioner also thanked the UK Border Agency and London Heathrow Airport Authorities for their support to ensure the safe return of the stranded Bangladeshis, mostly students from Bangladesh.

“At the request of Bangladesh High Commission, London the government re-routed the special flight to London on its way back to Dhaka to take home Bangladeshi citizens stranded in the UK. The flight was originally scheduled for carrying Bangladeshi expatriates from Dhaka to Rome on 12 June”.

The first repatriation flight from London was on May 10.
