A revolution has taken place in the country’s communication sector, opening up a new era in ensuring a safe and uninterrupted road network.

Communication is the precondition for the development of any nation. Development is not possible without smooth, safe and uninterrupted communications system across the country. Therefore, communication is very important for the development of the country.

We appreciate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership and her government’s hard work. Bangladesh has already stepped into a new era of communications sector.

Keeping this in mind, the government has been developing the communications sector for 14 years and nine months. So, a tremendous development in the communications sector took place in the country.

Sheikh Hasina on Thursday inaugurated record 150 bridges in 39 districts of eight divisions in a single day, giving a further boost to the country’s road connectivity. Of the inaugurated bridges, 40 are in Mymensingh division, 32 in Dhaka, 27 in Chattogram, 22 in Rajshahi, 12 in Khulna, eight each in Barishal and Rangpur, and one in Sylhet.

Earlier, on November 7 and December 21 last year, the premier opened 100 bridges and 100 roads and highways across the country. The bridges, highways and roads would help reduce road accidents and travel time along with contributing immensely to the socio-economic development.

These infrastructures including roads and national highways connect the capital to divisional cities, sea ports, land ports and international highways. The bridges connect district towns to river ports and land ports while district roads link district towns with upazilas or one upazila with another.

Maintain properly in

order to keep them components

 in good and serviceable condition

All concerned including general people will have to pay focus on the proper maintenance of the roads and highways. So, this was one of the most important days and the biggest ever events for the people living in remote area of country’s eight divisions. Millions of people especially the remote area of the country are so much happy, enthusiastic and delighted to witness the opening of their respective dream bridges to traffic. A feeling of joy has been sweeping over the people of the regions since the inauguration of the bridges. As bridges were opened to traffic, it will start establishing direct road connectivity in order to further strengthen the country’s economy.

After the inauguration of the super structure Padma Multi Purpose Bridge the government has also opened 250 bridges including three important new bridges -- Kalna Bridge in Narail, Bekutia Bridge in Pirojpur, and 3rd Shitalakhya Bridge in Narayanganj. As 100 highways and 250 bridges were opened countrywide, people living in remote areas will also get developed and beautiful life.

All must term the inauguration of more 150 bridges as also a historic event as they would help quicken the country’s overall development. We think it has been possible to implement the one after another projects including mega ones successfully amid many challenges and global crisis because of Sheikh Hasina’s earnest efforts and strong supervision. The government continued doing developments up to the grassroots level braving odds, conspiracies and obstacles. So, the country’s economy will start witnessing a strong growth in all sectors.

We hope people in the remote areas of the country will have no difficulties in travelling and they can now travel their respective destinations quickly and safely. Besides, these bridges, roads and highways will also change the entire economic landscape of the regions and contribute largely to communication, trade, industry, tourism and many other sectors in various ways.

The people now think the inauguration of more 150 bridges is like a fresh beginning of thoughts, works, words and actions to go ahead with vision and mission. Therefore, authorities concerned should inspect these bridges, roads and highways and maintain properly in order to keep them components in good and serviceable condition.
