At least 15 people were shot and injured after a fight ensued between two rival group of BNP in Raozan upazila of Chattogram on Thursday night.
Eleven of the injured were admitted to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital, while the others are receiving treatment at various private hospitals.
The incident occurred at Matbarpara Mosque area in Niramispara village under Noapara union of the upazila around 10:30pm on Thursday night. Local sources said that the shooting may have been the result of a conflict between two BNP groups. However, most of the injured were ordinary people. Sources from police said that a fight ensued between two rival groups of BNP to establish dominance over the area. The conflict over gaining dominance between the two BNP groups in Noapara union has led to frequent incidents of attacks and clashes recently.
Mir Mahabubur Rahman, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raozan Police Station, said that around 20 to 25 members of one BNP faction attempted to attack Kamal Uddin, the son of the former chairman of Noapara union parishad, Khayez Ahmed, on Thursday night. When local residents intervened, the assailants opened fire, injuring at least 15 people, including innocent individuals.
