15 railway carriages with ancillary equipment arrived by ship from China at Chattogram port under the ongoing Padma Bridge Rail Link Project. Already, the unloading process of the carriages has started at the 12th jetty of the port. Another 85 carriages will arrive in the next few months, the port authority said.
The product redemption process has started from Monday morning. Earlier last Saturday, Panama flag ship 'Toyo World' arrived at Chattogram port with 15 compartments from China.
Secretary of Chattogram Port Authority Omar Faruq said that 15 coaches brought from China by flag ship 'Toyo World' have arrived at Chattogram Port. Redemption is also ongoing. We are providing all kinds of support so that the railway carriages are cleared in a timely manner.
Shahadat Hossain Azad, Senior Assistant of CGPY Railway, said, after lowering the carriages to the jetty with the help of cranes, they are being taken to the CGPY yard in special wagons. From there, the machinery will be sent to Syedpur Rail Factory for fitting. There, after tire load and empty load, the cars will be put on the service line
Railway Project Director Tabassum Binte Islam said that 15 coaches will be brought in the first shipment but 100 coaches will be brought from China in several shipments by June next year.
15 rail coaches arriving at the port will be taken from Chattogram CGPY yard to Syedpur Railway Workshop under special arrangement. From there it will be taken to Dhaka. Next these coaches will transport passengers on Padma Bridge railway.
169 km railway line is being constructed from Dhaka to Jashore under the Padma Bridge Rail Link Project. The cost of this project is estimated at Tk 39 thousand 247 crore. The contractor for this project is China Railway Group. 100 coaches are being procured from China for Padma Bridge Rail Link Project, the biggest project in the country at the moment in the communication infrastructure sector to run trains with new coaches.
