A total of 143 Bangladeshi nationals were repatriated to Bangladesh from the detention centre in the Libyan capital of Tripoli.

A chartered flight of Buraq Air (UZ 0222) carrying those detainees landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 5am, said a press release of foreign ministry.

They reached Dhaka with the utmost efforts of International Organization for Migration, (IOM) Foreign Ministry and Bangladesh High Commission in Libya.

IOM gave Taka 5,896 as pocket money and food items to each Bangladeshi detainee. The process to repatriate irregular Bangladeshi from Libya is underway as more 373 Bangladeshis will be repatriated on Wednesday and December 5 next.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Libya Major General Abul Hasnat Muhammad Khairul Bashar met the people waiting to return to Bangladesh at the Libyan Immigration Directorate and bid them farewell on Monday. At that time, Abul Hasnat focused various risk factors of illegal immigration.

Abul Hasnat said that recently there was an agreement between Bangladesh and Libya regarding mutual cooperation in manpower export. This will protect the rights of workers who come to Libya legally in future.
