As many 1,400 farmers in Gazipur have received seeds of winter vegetables and 60 fruit growers got foot-pumps for free in Gazipur.
They received the seed and pumps at programmeheld at the Kaliganj upazila in Gazipur with Lawmaker and Awami League’s Women's Affairs Secretary Meher Afroz Chumki attending the event at the chief guest on Saturday.
Addressing the function, Chumki said the farmers of the country do not have to give their lives for fertilizer.
‘Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman began the process of nation building after independence. The daughter of Bangabandhu and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been continuing it and is working for the development of this country as well as the farmers,” she added. Chumki said whatever the job people in the country have, they always depend on agriculture.
The present government is helping farmers with incentives while they had to give their livesduring the BNP government, she added.
Presided over by KaliganjUpazila Parishad Chairman Moazzem Hossain Palash, UpazilaNirbahi Officer ShahinaAkter, Upazila Agriculture Officer Farzana Taslim, officials and local politicians and farmers participated in the programme.
Later, seeds of cauliflower, red spinach, and gourd seeds were distributed among 1400 farmers from 6 unions and 1 municipality of the Upazila, and 60-foot pumps were distributed among fruit growers of Nagari, Jamalpur, Moktarpur, and Jangalia unions of the Upazila. The Kaliganj Upazila Parishad Development Fundfinanced the initiative.
