Fourteen crews of a ship have been rescued before it sank at the outer anchorage of Mongla port.
Bangladesh Coast Guard has rescued the sailors soon after the fertilizer laden Cargo ship ‘New Parvin-2’ capsizes early on Friday, said Lieutenant Imtiaz Alam, operation officer of Mongla Coast Guard west zone.
The rescued members have been kept at Dubla camp of Coast Guard’s Sundarban unit, he said.
“A patrolling team of coast guard went to the scene after they spotted the ship was sinking,” said Alam quoting coast guards’ Dubla camp members. The rescued crew members are Jamal Hossain, Uzzal Hossain, Arafat Hossain, Salman Mollah, Shahadat Hossain, Harun Mollah, Jahangir Alam, Robin Sheikh, Makibul Islam, Rafiqul Islam, Arif Hossain, Hasan Sheikh, Manik Sheikh and Imam Hossain.
Meanwhile, Mongla Port Authorities Harbour Master Fakhor Uddin said, “The fertilizer laden cargo ship lost its way due to dense fog which causes capsize.”
