14-feet-long python rescued in Tentulia

Authorities in Tentulia upazila rescued a python from Debnagar union in Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh on Saturday.

It was known that the locals became terrified when a python was noticed near a bamboo grove adjacent to Md Sadekul Islam’s house in Nandagach village under Debnagar union in Tentulia upazila on Saturday noon. 

Later, the upazila administration was informed about the matter through the public representative. The upazila administration immediately reached the spot with Tentulia Forrest Bit Officer and rescued the python with the help of the locals.

The python is almost 14-feet-long and it weighs 9.2kg. Sources from Dinajpur Forrest Office (Panchagarh Range) said that according to the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act, the rescued python will be freed at Ramsagar area in Dinajpur, as it is a suitable location. They suspected that the snake entered Bangladesh through the river way due to the ongoing heavy rain and on rush of upstream water. Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Mahbubul Hasan, Upazila Forrest Bit Officer Nurul were present at that time.

In-Charge of Panchagarh Nursery Training Center, Ranger Haripad Debnath, said although they intended to free the rescued python locally, it wasn’t freed there due to the demands of the local residents. Later, it was sent to be freed in Ramsagar area in Dinajpur with the assistance of a team of Tentulia Forrest Bit.
