14 candidates in nomination fray for Cumilla-5 seat

Though the date of holding the by-election of Cumilla-5 ( Burichang-Brahmanpara) seat has not been announced following the death of former Minister for Law, AL Presidium Member Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru MP, at least 14 expectants have started a hectic lobbying for getting nominations as  contestants for the vacant seat. 

Among the expectants nominees, there are sons and daughters of the the late MP, his own brother, his political colleagues, political disciples, retired government bureaucrats and devoted AL leaders and supporters. 

It is learnt, Minister Abdul Matin Khasru breathed his last by being attacked with Coronavirus during treatment at Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka on April-14. Burichang-Brahmanpara seat remained occupied by AL since after the Liberation. Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru had been continuing to win and hold the seat for consecutive five-time, in 1991, 1996, 2009, 2014 and 2018 as the sole, uncontested candidate from AL. 

After his death, many candidates have expressed their willingness to get nomination to contest the by-election of the seat. Of the expectant nominees are the former Burichang Upazila Chairman and Joint Secretary of Cumilla South AL Sajjad Hosain, founder of Sonar Bangla College Principal Abu Saleh Selim Reza Sourav, Burichang Upazila AL President Advocate Abul Hasem Khan, AL leader Abdus salam Beg, late MP's son Munef Wasif, late MP's daughter Dr. Umme Habiba Dilsad munmun,late MP's brother Advocate Abdul Momin Ferdous, former DG of Drug Administration Major(retd) general Mustafizur Rahman, incumbent Burichang upazila chairman Akhlakh Haider, Brahmanpara upazila AL President Jahangir Khan Chowdhury, General Secretary Adv. Abdul Bari, Cumilla Zila parishad member Tarique Haider, Principal Ali Chowdhury Manik and Jubo League leader Ehteshamul Hasan Bhuiya.

 It is learnt, soon after the death of Minister Matin Khasru, the above mentioned personalities have started a hectic lobbying to get nomination to contest for the vacant seat.
